Special Military Features for APM's aircraft ground power units include:
"Still look new after 500 hours of heavy work", Cpl Greenslade, Interfet (East Timor) preparation force, Darwin
Transportability
All APM GPUs can handle severe 4G air transport shock
loads. The engine and main alternator are mounted on heavy duty rubber isolation
mounts with overload stops. The fuel tank, muffler, radiator, control cabinet
and battery compartment are similarly located with shock-loading in mind. APM's
GPU has tie-downs for both road and cargo-bay transport to Military Standard
MIL-STD-209H. It has integral forklift tubes for safe, easy loading by forklift.
Off-road use
For
off-road towing to remote locations the All-terrain GPU is built for moving on very poor roads. High ground clearance
(400mm/16") coupled with a short wheel base mean that it can be safely towed by all-terrain vehicles in the bush. Heavy duty 4 wheel electronic brakes and an
integral actuator, large diameter heavy duty tyres, precise axle constraints to
maintain the steering geometry and an extreme duty suspension with gas/oil shock
absorbers also make the unit easy to tow. The electronic brakes can be driven
with either 12V or 24V without having to select which voltage is being used. It is also equipped with helicopter airlift slinging provisions to MIL-STD-209H
For on the road towing the GPU can be towed
at speeds of up to 110 kmr/hr (65 mph), and can be fitted with towing lights.
Defense features
The APM GPU has a low infra-red signature
from the air. It is available with disruptive pattern painting to any military specification. Avionics on aircraft in sensitive locations can be run when powering up with an APM GPU as it is EMI/EMC rated to the highest military standard - MIL STD 461D.
APM's GPU is tough enough to be moved under
demanding conditions, and will perform reliably at its destination, in any environment. It
is ideally suited for military applications.
